The 38th China International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (CHINAPLAS 2026) will be grandly held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Hongqiao), Shanghai from April 21 to 24, 2026.DKM Injection Molding Machine will present its colorful water cup production line — a highlight of its latest all-electric machine series — at Booths 5.1C71 & 5.1C75.The colorful water cup changes color with viewing angles without the use of color pigments, achieved through a special process, combining attractive appearance and practicality.

Color-Changing Water Cup Process

The colorful water cup is a precise collaboration of light and structure. Based on the principle of light interference and reflection, its dazzling colors are achieved through laser-engraved nanostructures without any added pigments, combining practicality and aesthetic appeal.

Light Interference and Reflection
The dazzling color effect relies on the principle of light interference and reflection. When natural light strikes the special structure of the cup body, light waves split and superimpose to produce various colors without additional dyes.

Core Principle

Nanoscale Precision Structure
The core process involves creating microstructures or layered film structures on the mold surface, which are then replicated onto the cup body via injection molding.
The critical step uses high-precision laser to engrave nanoscale gratings or grooves on the mold surface, precisely controlling light propagation to enhance the color-shifting effect, requiring extremely high accuracy.

Key Process

The iridescent effect mainly depends on three factors: viewing angle, distance from the light source, and light source brightness. Changes in these aspects will alter the hue and saturation accordingly.

  • High positioning accuracy: The servo motor and precision control system of the allelectric injection molding machine can achieve positioning accuracy of 0.01mm to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the injection molding products.
  • Stability: The whole production process via the allelectric machine will not be affected by oil temperature changes. Its stable injection performance can ensure high quality of the products.

  • Fast response: The servo motor has a fast response time of 10 ms, which is significantly quicker than the hydraulic system’s response time of 100 ms. This faster response greatly shortens the molding cycle and enhances production efficiency.
